When we are unconscious, asleep, or zoned out, our senses remain open, impossible to shut down without manual intervention or external assistance. Among these senses, our hearing often extends the farthest, with sounds permeating our surroundings, aiding our sense of direction, alerting us to potential dangers, and complementing our vision. Soundwalking has emerged as a significant practice since the 1960s, not only in personal artistic exploration but also within political contexts. By engaging in attentive listening while walking, we immerse ourselves in the complexities of the current Anthropocene, becoming acutely aware of the factors shaping our environment. As the interdisciplinary artist and researcher Jacek Smolicki aptly stated, no soundwalk is innocent(Jacek Smolicki, Soundwalking, 2023).
In the Interactive video project envision, participants are encouraged to delve into the urban soundscape while deprived of their visual senses. How far does the connection between sound and vision persist? Much like our brains instinctively add color to black-and-white films, to what extent do we visualize our surroundings through sound?
